Otherwise, i'd say that this is a good solution and holds air in the long term much better than the one's we use for real camping. It does for the most part, but I keep the inflator handy. We are each just over 200 lbs each, so it's not compensating for 'huge' people. In order to be FIRM, I have to inflate this more for one person than two.
I ordered this to put inside a real air bed top mattress because the air mattresses were leaking and I was sick of it. You really NEED THE QUICK PUMP though due to the nature of the inflator valve. and it's much better with two people than one as the air distribution is better. and cannot afford to purchase a whole new king size bed set.
Since my other half is an over the road trucker, I'm alone much of the time and have to put more air in it when I'm alone, and let a tiny bit out when it's the two of us. I was not planning on buying that as I have a rechargable pump for other mattress' but there is no way to get this inflated FIRM without the pump for this air mattress. I was counting on it HOLDING AIR for extended periods of time as it is zipped inside of a mattress form with fitted foam. I think it slowly loses SOME air over a week or so, but I'm not sure because of the next reason.
We had another brand, supposedly rated "best" which lost air as expected (even reviewers said it would lose air after a few months; why my wife bought it, I don't know). We have been impressed. But never the Colmans, not yet anyway, a full year later. We never had any problems with Colman matresses and we have four of them, two raised airbed twins, one raised airbed queen and a flat king. All have kept their air, as claimed, "no leak" guarantee good.
On the new one it seems to be built better to prevent this.Get one. Bought it to replace a old one that I used for five years. The valve tore off.
I can't send it back now since I'm over the 30 day limit. Amazon sent me another one to replace it with and this one went 32 days and again, another leak. I wouldn't recommend this air bed for long-term use. The product has a tendancy to break at the seams after about 3 weeks of use. I bought this product to use as a temporary bed for a house guest and after 3 weeks, the bed developed a leak.
Our butts do not hit the bottom. So, for under $80, we have a spare AND they came with FREE shipping.
I will say that it is a bit short for the California king waterbed frame, but, hey, that is ok. That was a stimulus package all in itself.
We are a couple of elderly natural lightweights (127/173) and when the waterbed gave out (literally) we had major sticker shock at the price of ANY mattress. It is very comfortable, even switching from a waterbed.
We just store extra blankets at the foot end of the bed and you could never tell by the looks. We are "Happy Campers", so to speak. We bit the bullet, bought TWO of these (just in case one didn't do the job) and One is all that was necessary.
We used an air pump from a queen sized duel airbed so it is properly inflated.
